January – Southern Coasts and Forest escapes

The beginning of the year is ideal for beach trips and coastal drives. While the north is going through its summer heat, it’s the perfect time to enjoy the southern coastline.  Hike through the Cape Le Grand national park, drive on the beaches and swim with the kangaroos at Lucky Bay.  Be sure not to miss the stunning coastal towns of Albany and Denmark.

February – Continue your Southern Adventure

Hide away from the hustle and bustle in the shaded karri forests surrounding Walpole and Pemberton. Check out the world class wineries of Margaret River and walk the Busselton Jetty- The longest tourist jetty in the southern hemisphere. January to March is Orca season in Bremer Bay, so book your boat tour.  The beaches are usually firm and dry this time of year and great for a beach drive, just be sure to check the tides.

March – Outback Glow and Peaceful Trails

March is the best month for distant adventure trips in WA as the summer heat begins to subside. Enjoy colder evenings as you head north towards Kalbarri or the Pilbara. It’s one of the greatest months for hiking into historic gorges at sunrise and for solitude. It’s also the start of the Whale Shark season in Ningaloo Reef.

April – The Outback North Awakens

April is a great month for road trips. That’s the best time to drive your 4×4 camper north because the heat is now starting to ease.  The gorges in Karijini National Park should now be full of water from the wet season.  Snorkel at Ningaloo Reef and explore the 4wd tracks in Shark Bay and Frances Peron National Park.

May – Whale Sharks and Warm Sunshine

From March to July, Ningaloo Reef becomes the world’s most spectacular swimming spot as whale sharks arrive. May offers calm seas and perfect snorkelling weather. It’s one of the biggest natural highlights in all of WA.  Camp on the beach, sleep under the stars and wake to a sunrise over the water.

June & July – The Kimberly Season Begins

In Western Australia, winter brings cool air and clear skies, which are great for exploring the bush and Australia outback. Make your way to the Gascoyne’s red-dirt trails or set up camp near Mount Augustus, the world’s largest rock. It’s cold in the evenings, but the stars make every moment special.  Continue on to Broome, inland through Karijini or travel along the coastline.

August & September – Wildflower Wonderland

This is when Western Australia truly bursts into colour. Millions of wildflowers bloom across the state, from Geraldton to Kalbarri and out to the Goldfields. Drive through carpets of pink, yellow, and white blossoms, it’s one of nature’s greatest shows.

October to December – Coastal Adventures and Festive Vibes

The last months of the year bring warm sunshine and longer days. It’s time to explore the Southern half WA from Perth to Esperance and beyond.  Whether it’s the amazing coastline or the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk in Walpole, there is something for everyone.  Rottnest Island is a must.  No tourist should leave WA without meeting a Quokka.

Every season in Western Australia has its own kind of magic. Whether you’re travelling by 4×4 camper, joining guided adventure tours in WA, or charting your own path with an Adventure West Rental, the state rewards every explorer with something new each month. So plan your route, fuel your curiosity, and experience the changing beauty of WA—one unforgettable moment at a time.
