As the year ended, Bree and I (Daniel) wanted to reset by going on an exciting adventure in Western Australia. On December 27th, we set off in a Ford Ranger camper from Adventure West 4×4 Rentals for exploration, camping, and a bit of surprise.
Our first stop was Windy Harbour, about a four-hour drive from Perth. On the way, we stopped in Busselton for a tasty lunch, bought some fishing gear, and got fresh cuts from a local butcher. We felt excited about what was coming next as we continued our trip south.

Exploring Windy Harbour
Arriving in Windy Harbour, we were immediately captivated by its rugged beauty. Keen to start our WA camping adventure, we tackled the ‘Summertime Track,’ a scenic 4×4 route leading to a secluded beach. The trail was everything we hoped for—a thrilling drive through untouched landscapes. But as we approached the coast, we encountered a curveball: a freshwater river had washed out a significant section of the track just 25 metres from our destination.
We realised it was not safe to continue. As daylight was fading, we needed to act fast. We decided to turn back and follow the path we had taken. It took us an hour to reach the main road. Once there, we inflated our tyres again and started our journey again.

A Change of Plans
Uncertain about the other nearby beaches, we opted to go to Myalup Beach, which is popular for fishing and day outings. During the journey, we discovered a pleasant location at Preston Beach Caravan Park, conveniently located near Myalup. This unexpected stop proved to be a fortunate turn of events. The campsite provided all the necessary facilities to refresh ourselves and organise the next phase of our journey.
Discovering Myalup Beach
For the next three days, we made Myalup Beach our base for unforgettable camping adventures in WA. While camping directly on the beach isn’t allowed, the area is perfect for 4WD exploration and fishing. Each morning, we would set out in the camper to scout the best fishing spots, and our evenings were filled with storytelling under a canopy of stars. Moments like these truly bring the spirit of adventure in WA to life.

Lessons and Memories
This trip showed us how unpredictable adventures in Western Australia can be. We planned for an easy journey, but the need to change our plans and discover new places made it more exciting. Adventure West 4×4 Rentals helped us with this by giving us a strong and dependable vehicle to handle any challenge.
If you’re planning your WA adventure, our experience highlights the importance of flexibility and preparation. Windy Harbour and Preston Beach Caravan Park offer excellent camping options, and Myalup Beach is perfect for daytime adventures. If you are a local or a visitor, enjoy WA 4WD adventures with an open mind. You will make memories that last a lifetime. And thank you Dan and Bree for the video – it is absolutely incredible!!
